KOHL’S SAFETY DAY CELEBRATES KOHL’S INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM DONATION

On October 18, over 350 children and families joined Detroit Red Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock, Dana Lundon from WDVD 96.3, and lots of Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteers for Kohl’s Safety Day at the new DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center – Canton.  The event was hosted by the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation and the Kohl’s Injury Prevention Program (KIPP) at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Lots of families enjoyed music and dancing, craft activities, safety information, and snacks.  Not only was a good time had by all, but over 249 children are now safer because they received a properly fitted bike helmet at the event.  Children were able to decorate their new helmets, and have them autographed by Coach Babcock.  Families were also able to receive injury prevention, poison prevention, and pet safety information.

At the event, Kohl’s Vice President District 7 Manager Holly Smolinski and District 61 Manager Cami Wilson presented a $545,107 grant to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation to support KIPP’s injury prevention programs at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.  During the check presentation, Coach Babcock encouraged children to wear their new bike helmets every time they rode their bikes.

The Kohl’s Cares Hospital Partnership Program is a vital source of support for the KIPP, which provides safety educational materials and products such as smoke alarms, car seats and bike helmets to children and their families at no charge.  They also visit area schools and community events to teach kids about injury prevention.  Since 2000, Kohl’s has donated more than $5.2 million to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation to support KIPP at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.  Along with the donations, Kohl’s Associates also volunteer on a regular basis to make our community safety events a success.  To learn more about KIPP visit http://www.childrensdmc.org/KIPP

Many thanks to Kohl’s Cares, Coach Mike Babcock, Dana Lundon and 96.3 WDVD, Joe Cornell Entertainment, Garden Fresh Salsa, Domino’s Pizza Canton #1040, Perry’s Tents and Events, and everyone who helped make Kohl’s Safety Day so much fun!
