To whom should I make my check payable?

Please make your gift payable to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation.

What is an annual gift?

An annual gift is any one-time monetary gift that is donated to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation over the course of the year. The gift may come as an answer to an appeal letter or to help fund annual programs such as Celebration of Life or Adopt-a-Family. Or there may be no particular call to action—just someone who is motivated to help. The funds received are used to help fund immediate needs, or may be designated for specific purpose.

What is a monthly gift? (We also call this a sustaining gift.)

A monthly gift is a gift charged to your credit card every month. To create a monthly gift, you decide how much you would like to give every month and we will automatically bill your credit card for this amount. Get the convenience of automated payments and the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping children all year long. You can arrange a sustaining gift using our online donation form.

What is an unrestricted gift?

An unrestricted (or undesignated) gift to Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation goes immediately where it is needed most to help children and families. Unrestricted gifts are a vital source of support for our current greatest needs in caring for children. These gifts support everything from crayons to clothing to funding critical pediatric medical research.

What is a company matching gift?

Many employers have a matching gift program to help the charitable contributions of their employees go further. When you give a gift, your employer may make a gift of equal amount. Contact your human resources office to find out if your company will match your gift to Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation.

To make a gift of securities, either transfer your securities from a brokerage account to the Foundation’s account or send them to us with a cover note, including under separate cover a signed stock or bond power form. Contact Therese M. Quattrociocchi-Longe, Senior Development Officer, by phone at (313) 745-0138 or email at TQuattro@chmfoundation.org.

How do I designate my gift?

When you make a contribution to support a specific purpose or program, or meet a specific need, you are making a designated gift. You may direct your gift to support charitable programs in pediatric research, medical education, and for child health advocacy, education, and outreach programs.

If you prefer to target your gift to a specific program area or research effort you may do so using the gift designation area on our online giving form or by mail using our downloadable donation form. Please give us whatever information you think will help us to direct your gift where you want it to be used. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

Is my gift safe and secure?

The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation accepts Visa, MasterCard or American Express for donations. Our website is a secure, encrypted system that offers you the convenience of making a gift with your credit card. The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation protects against unauthorized disclosures by limiting access only to those of our employees who need the information to do their jobs. All employees receive information regarding the importance of keeping confidential information which they obtain to do their jobs. The Foundation has implemented business ethics and confidentiality policies which ensure your gift will be handled securely.

What is a security code?

A security code is a feature on most credit cards to help secure and validate online credit card transactions. It is a three or four-digit number that usually appears on the back of the card on or near the signature block. American Express card users will find it on the front of the card. The security code is not the raised account number on the card. It is typically printed on the card and appears as the last three or four digits after your account number. The security code verifies that you have the card in your possession while making a transaction.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

Whether you give online, by phone, or by mail, we will send a gift acknowledgement letter to the address you provide. This acknowledgment of your gift conforms to Internal Revenue Service requirements for tax purposes and confirms that Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation has not provided any goods or services in consideration for your gift. If you have purchased a ticket to an event, the gift acknowledgement will indicate the fair-market value of the goods and services you have received.
